Hi Stallzer, I will try to give you watermark but i'm not sure if I will be able to see it. I have always serious problem to see watermark on US stamps. They are extremely difficult to see (for me :-) Thank you! CDNum https://picasaweb.google.com/CDNumStamps/ |

From top to bottom I would guess them as T3,T2,T3,T1,T3 - even with great scans it can be diificult. The one I am least certain of is the T2. The T1 must be SC453. The others, are most likely the cheaper varieties. SC454 and SC492. |

Chasa-- I definitely agree with the 2nd stamp-- the postmark is covering the eyebrow and the lock of hair. But I can't tell from the picture on the 4th one, whether the eyebrow is straight, or if it has the point on top-- there is definitely something there at the top, right below the postmark again. Bottom of the hair left of the ear is also fairly strong-- I think it might be a Type II vs. the Type I.
Since those are the only 2 points you can really use, without a side by side comparison of the weaker shading spots, the postmark may be in the way on both of them.
And speaking of the Type I rotary-- I got an email back from Bill Weiss on Friday on one that I had submitted to him. I had the seller ship directly to him, so I haven't seen it yet, but he said at that point he was fairly sure it was genuine and sound...a 449. I'll post it when I get it-- can't wait.
Thanks, Ray |

Hi, I'm not able to say watermark type with certitude. I try with lighter, ultralight, blacklight, water and lighter fluid... It's incredible. I don't know why but I don't see US WM. GB or other are easy to see but US... NO :-) Thank you Chasa and Ray.Mac CDNum https://picasaweb.google.com/CDNumStamps/ |

According to my catalog there are only 2c Washington Stamp designs (A140) that are perf 10 vertically. #444 (flat plate, S/L Wmk, Type II) and #491 (rotary, no wmk, Type II.) Assuming the relative sizes are correct (looks like you scanned them all at once), and agreeing that "US-2C-Coil-1" is Type II - then by comparison of the relative frame sizes "US-2C-Coil-2" should also be Type II (491) and the rest are #444 (flat plate). Here is the image I used for size comparison: |

Chasa, you're correct.
On closer inspection there are 6 coil varieties that are perf 10 vertically so my previous conclusions are invalid. |

Hello, I believe the 1st, 3rd and 5th stamps are all type III. That would make them either 455 or 492 depending upon watermark. 492 has no watermark. The 2nd and 4th are type II. That would make them either 454 or 491. 491 has no watermark. They are all rotary press printings, should all measure 19.5x22 in the design, the watermark is the determining factor. The #2 stamps is a weaker strike or perhaps strike with less ink than #4, but, I believe, its still a type II. 491 is a rather expensive stamp, so be sure to check for watermarks.
