Hello all,
I just recently soaked my rather rough #113...after the removal of some old hinging I'm not sure if I see any grill.

Would this be a #113b?...or am I missing something?

Thanks!

I suspect there are traces of a grill there that may not be readily apparent. The Scott Specialized Catalog offers this preface to the entire 1869 issue:

Quote:
"Stamps of the 1869 issue without grill cannot be guaranteed except when unused and with the original gum or traces of the original gum."

(I imagine that to be the reason why the 113b is not listed with a used catalog value.)

There is something very unusual about the paper on that stamp, but I can't put my finger on it ...
