Chess By Mail

I bought this $1 card off ebay because of the Langley Prairie, BC cancel which is the old name of where I live (now called just Langley), and it is not that common.



When the card arrived today, I saw some sort of code it seams on the back. Then it dawned on me that it was chess moves, they were playing chess by mail. Yes I have played a little bit of chess.



I wonder how long it took them to complete the game. Now I image it is way faster, you can play by email, or just play online.

With the speed of the postal service these days, I image it would take 10-15 years to complete a game by snail mail and cost a fortune

Great item Bee See - have read about chess being played by mail but have never seen anything to verify it - having played a bit of chess myself over the years I can imgaine the anticipation of waiting for the next move

Just saw this, I wonder if they had different games from different people being played at the same time?

Nice find. When I was a kid one of my Grand Uncles use to play chess by mail. I use to get all the covers to soak off the stamps.
I believe it was very popular back in the day
