Need help with these stamps. Anyone know something about them? We are not collectors and have no idea what we have.

They are United States stamps issued in 1940. They are a part of a larger set of "Famous Americans"

Yes a BIG to SCF! rohumpy is correct. These are from the Famous Americans set issued in the 40's. Looks like you have some plate blocks and/or blocks of four there! Looking good.

Here is some information from the Mystic stamp catalog:

In 1934, after stamp-collecting President Franklin Roosevelt's first year in office, the public began asking that certain people be honored on stamps. The result was the Famous Americans set – a direct link to F.D.R.'s presidency. F.D.R. took charge, choosing many of the honorees, approving sketches and selecting denominations for some stamps!
