i just have been searching my recent kilo purchase and found an interesting stamp perf 11*10.5. it appears to be a 634 but much darker and deeper in color than all others I have seen.
i made a photo but it does not look as dark as the stamp appears to my eye.
i know the scans do not always show the true color for a stamp.
i have checked the sweedishtiger's site and am not sure if it could be a 634b..
i have also seen mentioned of a lake color for this stamp.
i know this may just be wishful thinking but found it interesting.

i guess maybe I should send it to be certified but would hate to waste money if it was not worth anything.

please give me your thoughts

thanks

Scott 634 was perf. 11 x 10.5. I don't think your example would even remotely be "lake" in color (which is a 634b), as it would be very much darker. The Scott Specialized Catalog suggests that #634 had three color variations, including carmine, carmine red and carmine rose, all of which commands a catalog minimum value in used condition of $0.20.

Probably a red carmine, and scans are notoriously not very good color indicators as you can tell from your example, but still the lake would have a different hue. (listem to me colorblind to reds and giving out advice). Still I think that is what you have. - jeff

to my eye the stamp has a color more close to a dark ruby.
i do not know why I posted this scan because the stamp in person does not look as this photo.

In my opinion, the stamp may also have aged, giving it a darker hue. If you see the white of the paper has 'oranged' over time. This could be from several reasons - which could include the bleeding of the envelope's color when it was soaked for removal, skin oil from excessive handling, etc.

These are tough calls for me personally. I opt to error on the side of, well, the least expensive. If I end up finding it's a better, more valuable variety of the specimen, then I'm pleasantly surprised.

Of course, I can't say that has happened to me yet...

it is most likely worth very little. I just soaked it...it was on paper and found it had a tear...but the color seems darker than other of the copies I have.i just found it interesting...i always have hope to find that rare stamp. I am still not giving up hope for this stamp...maybe I will look further into this stamp later
