I've been looking for some time for a "source" for used current stamps. Our local newspaper was having a contest where you had to mail in an entry form. I enclosed a letter asking if they would be willing to save the envelopes for my junior stamp club.

Today I got a call and the woman said she would be glad to save them and that she had some from the last few days I could come pick up. Well, needless to say, I was VERY exicted! After bringing the envelopes home, though, here is what I came up with:

74 flag stamps
90 Statue of (Las Vegas) Liberty
30 Liberty Bells
5 Madonna and Childs
40 Holiday Baubles
5 Everygreen cones
5 Garden of Loves
10 Purple Hearts
4 Edward Hoppers
2 Gregory Pecks
1 Chinese New Year Dragon
2 Disney Pixars
1 Kansas
3 Different Flags of Our Nation
2 Bonsai

That's a grand total of 279 stamps. It's sad to me that there weren't more commemoratives. (The 2 Disneys were actually from my two entries!)

The other problem was that more than half of the stamps had their tops slit off from opening the envelopes.

While it was nice to get the few "good" stamps, it sure would be nice if people used more commemoratives!

I don't have a multitude of recent US but I will send you any spare commemoratives I have. I have an envelope started with items from your list.

Irishjack,

What a nice offer! I would take you up on anything you think
would appeal to kids. They usually tend to go for the
topical stamps. The CTO's would probably be the most likely
to work.

Many, many thanks!

keep on plugging there spanishmoss, the club will prevail and you will find more and more stamps coming in. Have you tried asking in Linn's Stamp Magazine or the APS magazine. I have seen some letters from people that have asked and gotten wonderful donation responses.
