I just made my first triangular mount. I'm ashamed to say how many tries it took to cut this mount that is good enough, but still not as well done as I would like. Let's just say that it is the most expensive mount I have ever made and cost well more than the stamp is worth. I guess I got carried away.

I licked all three corners when I stuck it to the page, since the "hinge" at the top is so narrow. Normally, I just wet the mount along the top edge so I can remove the stamp more easily.

How do you mount your triangular stamps? Does anyone (else) cut black mounts into triangles? In general, I like black mounts but this is one time I wished I had gone with clear mounts!

I think your mount looks fine. I use clear plastic strips. You have to make the sides pretty fat; otherwise, the portion at the top is too flimsy. The bigger problem is keeping these things in the mount. I store my albums vertically. The triangular stamps seem to flop out the left side. I have better success with the seam on the left side, rather than the bottom.

I create my own pages in ClarisWorks, an ancient Apple program. Drawing the triangles is a pain in the neck. I collect airmails through 1940. There were quite a few triangles issued, especially by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Paraguay is another offender. Fortunately, I have most of these stamps. So when I get new ones, I have so many triangles drawn, I can just copy one.

hi mrprgrmr

The mpunt looks fine. I also cut triangles. I use a Hawid cutter ruler:

You could probably get the ruler at a US supplier.

Using the solid line against the perfs I end up with a mount that looks exactly like yours. It is real easy with this ruler. So far nothing has fallen out of a mount and I only dampen the top. Doing the other 2 corners is a good idea.

A better way is to use a damp Q-tip without the stamp in the mount. Here is a discussion on cutting mounts:

It may seem expensive and terribly time consuming, but you have figured out how to do it by yourself & I am certain that by the time you have the entire set mounted on a page with this one in the same manner, you will be extremely satisfied with your work & more than anxious to show it off to all. Congratulations.

Thanks all. All will try the Q-Tip trick. It might give better control over the location & amount of moisture. I've always just licked mounts and hinges with an almost dry tongue. I do wonder about introducing all those icky bacteria to my stamps, though. Also, I occasionally have a hinged stamp fall out of the album - I guess sometimes I don't use enough moisture in my attempt to make the hinges "peelable".

I use clear Hawid strips, however, I put a thin grey cardcoard underneath.

But I must admit, my collecitng areas contain only one triangle stamp at all...
