Just saw a stamp on ebay labeled mint-used.

Am I missing something?
Thought mint meant unused as in no cancel...I know ebay can be notorious for seller error but I feel I still know so little I second guess my knowledge.

Just checking in to get the real story!

I agree could be a CTO maybe and the seller is not really a stamp collector.

Some sellers say stuff like this because they are not stamp collectors, as Dianne says, or because they are trying to hype up the item and make it appear really nice and wonderful.

In this last case mint would mean 'the best you can expect' or 'really nice premium example' or some such, which is just hype and not usually factual. Similar to what you would expect if someone said their car was mint condition.

Best to double check the picture and see if it is a picture of the real item or move on.

I suspect it is merely a titling error on the part of the seller. Maybe the seller got distracted while typing the title. It happens.

I agree with khj. Unless the seller feels a hinged stamp makes it used.

An aside, the only other canceled mint stamp I could think of, besides Dianne's CTO is an unused precancel, which technically would be used.

Email him if interested and ask for a pic of the back emailed to you or, failing that, ask whether there is gum on the back.

To me that is no where near a Very Fine grade. Fine only (centering) which should lower the asking price also.

So if his title is half way correct and not just one he uses with every stamp he lists, it is mint (with gum) hinged. Look at the back. Always look at the back.
