I was looking in the Scott Catalog under Flag Over Porch US stamp (32 cent) and noticed that some single stamps with Plate # 22322 in used condition would be valued at $6.50 and Plate# 66666 values at $8.00 used (values from my 2006 catalogue).
What makes these particular Plate#'s more valuable??

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions!

There are over 250 versions of this stamp and 6 or 7 different printers. I believe plate V11111 is the one that people search for. I do know that because of the demand for these stamps printing plates wore out fast and often.

I do know that there were two different layouts of what they call die cut crossings in 1996. The die cut valleys were broadened in the area of the crossings. These were used on the higher plate numbers that year. How many versions of a stamp can they make well just consider there were multiple printing houses, sheets , coils, books, booklet panes, various plate numbers, different perforations, along with die cuts that adds up to a lot different versions for one stamp.

Add to this different styles of gum and adhesive. Yes they came in both styles. Then even the gum came in high gloss or low gloss. There is even more since some came in different paper thickness.

So much for just keeping one copy and then forwarding the rest on to someone.

According to my 2006 Scott Catalogue the Flag Over Porch 32 cent USA stamp #2915A (Serpentine die cut 9.8 vertical) from 1996 a used single with plate #88898 and #89899 are valued at approx $225!!
Wouldn't that be a heck of a find while sorting!
It wouldn't hurt to watch for Plate numbered stamps and pull them aside****

Thanks!

My new Hebert's PNC catalogue lists the Scott Catalog stamp #1622--the 13cent US FLAG (perf 11 X 10 1/2) with plate number 36252 as mint -worth $100 and used $75! (of course, condition means everything)
Looks like I will be checking my PNC's tonight!

Gussyboy1
I guess I should have started a new thread about this PNC but threw it in here.
Correction: It's the Hebert's Plate Number Single Catalog
