I have been offered to buy a U.S. Mint Sheet of Stamps. There are 40 stamps on the sheet of "The First Voyage of Christopher Columbus"

Scott's # 2620-23

I cannot find a value for the sheet in Scott's Specialty Catalog or in the regular catalog. I can only find the value for Plate Blocks of 4

What is the sheet's actual Value. Help please and Thank You

Chuck

See what they are selling for on the auction sites but I would say around 15.00+/- depending on condition, centering, color registration and the like. That is the se-tenant depicting "Columbus seeking Queen Isabella's support"-"Crossing the Atlantic"-"approaching land"-"Coming ashore" Correct?

Yes and the scott's catalog lists plate blocks at $6.50 for a block of four and there are 8 plate blocks per sheet plus 10 extra stamps. So I figure the sheet is worth at least $48

Whoa.... No way no how. The sheet is worth a max of $11.60 face value, plate blocks of these are routine $2 on ebay, mint modern stamps are cheaper than cheap.

There are 40 stamps in that pane, so face value is $11.60.

I'm not sure what Scott catalog you're referring to, but #2623a plate block value is listed in Scott 2011 at only $2.75; ZIP block at $2.50; blocks of 4 at $2.40. There is only one plate block and one ZIP block on that series of stamps and 40 stamps total in the sheet. So if you do the math:

Plate Block ($2.75) + ZIP Block ($2.50) + 8 Other Blocks @ $2.40 ($19.20) = $24.45 total catalog value. Then, of course, you would discount modern postage as being worth only perhaps half of catalog value, bringing the amount to $12.22.

I would say the resale value is somewhere between face ($11.60) and half catalog ($12.22), so $12 would be about the range you should expect to pay. If that's not acceptable, move on, as there are many other sheets out there. In fact, there were 40,005,000 stamps issued, so there's more than an ample supply to go around for collector's needs.
