Wheeling was an important city in the Commonwealth of Virginia until 1861 when the western parts
of Virginia seceded from the state. It was the location of the Wheeling Convention,
which established the state of West Virginia, and was the capital of West Virginia from 1861-1870.

This advertising cover is from Baker & Wright, wholesalers in Tobacco, Snuff and Segars,
located on Main Street in Wheeling. It has a large blue Wheeling, VA. postmark and was
mailed shortly before the Civil War, probably in 1859 or 1860.

Really nice cover T.....

It looks like a #26.....not an expensive stamp Phil, but I'll bet there was a premium on the cover because of the corner card and it's overall decent condition.

Thanks everyone! nr-notrare is right it is a #26.
This cover was $18 on stampwants, marked down from $30 during the 40% off sale.
I have been to Wheeling, W.V. so it caught my eye that the postmark said Virginia not West Virgina.
Also liked the spelling "Segars" instead of "Cigars."
