I have been looking through more Albums and found these two stamps overprinted V.R. Transvaal. I am not sure if I am identifying these correctly. My guess is these are SG 118 3d Mauve/Buff and SG 121 6d Blue/Blue. Just wondering if anyone can verify these for me? If I am incorrect please let me know. I am also wondering if these are fake or if they are the real deal? Also, what sort of price could I put on these? Thanks in advance for you help. Roos

Roos I do not have my South Africa catalogue at hand but I will take a look this evening when I get in. They look the part. There are many printings and types for each of the Transvaal stamps but I will post up what I find.

Home and have my South African Colour catalogue out.
Ok from what I see here :
1) 3d mauve on buff paper - issued 24/10/1877 (21960) 2) 6d blue on blue paper on green paper - issued 27/11/1877 (17920)
Cat Values : 1) R300 2) R550
For this series there are 5 values - and three separate perf varieties for each - Imperf, Fine Roulette and Wide Roulette.
The only thing that looks out of place is the dots on the 6d. I am going to go search for some examples to compare. Will post up some pics when I find.

Another tidbit on your 3d on buff paper - the 13 postmark is for Lijdenburg - changed to Lydenburg before 1880. |

Thanks for the info Drew, I really appreciate it.
I might try and sell the 3d for AU$20 and AU$45 on the 6d.

Like the penny black and other early issues from around the world - margins and quality are important. As I only have an interest in these stamps I wouldnt be able to help out with a market value. A page where I grabbed the above image lists many from early Transvaal - http://www.rhodesia.co.za/ZAR_TRANSVAAL_59.html . They have superb material and I often use it for reference. Drew |

Unfortunately I havent bought much or sold any of this material. Sorry I can't be more helpful. You starting this thread has spurred me to get out some of the stock pages I do have on Transvaal to have another look.

Hi Barry
You mentioned you would be willing to purchase these for AUD$25, is that for both of them.

Sorry guys, I don't mean to put a damper on things but the forum has rules regarding buying/selling/trades. Quote:
You must have at least 50 quality* posts and have been a member for at least 14 days to post anything involving buying, selling, or trading. This applies to any forum at all, not just the Buy/Sell/Trade forums. Established members may not make any reference to a new member under 50 posts involving buying, selling or trading. Get those numbers up and then you can put the items up. Now where are the rest of my Transvaal stock pages....... |

I am aware of the rule, I did try and email Barry but had no success.
Have you had any luck in finding your Transvaal stamps StampStudy?
