Picked up these three rose 3c Washingtons recently on ebay. The seller had them all listed as 65s, and admitted he hadn't checked grills, but was more concerned with the cancels. The first is definitely a 65, though the colour wasn't easy to tell on the auction, so I was hoping for something different. But I still like the cancel and the way off centering.

The other two have grills, and I was hoping you grill experts out there could tell from my scans what they might be.
I'm leaning towards two F grills.
On the first I count 12 x 17.

And on this one I count 12 x 13

I quite like the blue cancel on this one.
I don't trust the numbers written on the backs, so I look forward to hearing what you folks think you can see.

Go ahead. Dazzle me!

James,

I agree that they are both F grills. To be sure, you might want to highlight the grill on the back side of the stamps using graphite to help you get a better point count.(rub a pencil on a paper, run your finger across it, and then rub the grill with your finger).

Ah... James it seems we watch and buy some of the same things. And interestingly I also bought three with grilles from the same seller. I almost bought the first and third one here: and even more strangely, for the same reasons.

Thanks guys. Sirruspoe, great minds think alike! There was another blue cancel I was going to go for but it was gone before I could pounce. Did you get it?

Yeah..I think I did. It has a double blue cancel with one on each side of the front of the stamp. I will post those three later on. I have worked over 200 hours the past two weeks and cannot bring myself to do much at the moment.

Hello Again JamesW,

Well I finally got time to get these scanned so here we go.

First two are number 88 with E grills I believe.

The last one being a 94 with an F grill.

I was a bit upset with the slight tear on this one, but will keep for the cancel.

Is it just me or is that "T" in cents really broken?

That's the 88 I was eyeing. Goes to show, if you're not fast...
Well done. Love the Cincinnati (I think) cancel.

I was thinking that as well and being from Ohio I couldn't pass it up. I am thinking about starting a new thread on that 94 to see about that "T". Not sure if that is an EFO or plate issue, or if I may be seeing things.
