These photos are of some items a man brought into our stamp club this past weekend. He claims to have dozens more including official surveyor maps and other legal documents from Portland, Oregon in the late 1860s 1870s. I've asked him to bring the remainder of his documents to our next Saturday club meeting so I can take more photos. Items from that era in Portland may have significant historical value at the very least if the names on the documents are exactly what he claims. He mentioned many of the city's founding family names (all of which have streets and neighborhoods named after them) so even if the stamps are not worth much, the documents need to be preserved.

I took a couple of quick photographs of the documents he had with him and told him I'd try to get some information about them.

Thanks!

Brian

The first doc is interesting because the stamps are not properly canceled. The clerk was to have canceled the stamps with his initials and the date of the transaction. The $1 Mortgage imperf (R73a) is a slightly better stamp cataloging $25.00.
