I got it this morning and it is absolutely NOT that beautiful color that was presented on the listing! It looks like a grey trial proof or that old-school grey-violet color from the early classic period. here I'll scan it into this post in a moment. I'm sort of bummed about the color but then again, it is neat and I'm still proud to own it. So, no dispute no bad review just happy about my new addition.

Exactly Stallzer. I should maybe call and say something but I'm just going to leave well enough alone. I'll just stay clear of Mr. Langs stores and just buy from more *REPUTABLE* (Cough, Cough) dealers (which I though he was-). I left him positive feedback anyhow and just going to eat it for now. I should maybe apologize for not doing my homework. What are your thoughts Stallzer? I very much respect your views and opinions because you have much more experience in this field than I.

The best way to look at this is with a side-by-side comparison of approximately the same size:

Beyond the color issue, the top of the actual proof has staining/foxing which, in my opinion would diminish the value of that example. Also of note is that the bottom margin on the actual proof is slightly larger and the left margin is slightly shorter.

I'm not the expert on these sort of things, but I think it would be a stretch to use the term "VF/XF" to describe the condition of the item you received.

Bottom line is that you have to be the judge of the value received for the price paid and if you're satisfied, that's really all that is important.

Have a good read over of the item description from the auction and see if it states that "This is not the actual Proof you will receive" thing. They advertised a piece with nice color and sent you something with toning, no color, and an entirely different item, a so called bait and switch. The one you received has a dot below the lower left Cannonballs which is not present on the display piece. I'd ask for a partial refund if not a complete refund and send item back. I wouldn't think that that proof on card is hard to find as I've seen quite a few and for the Money, you can find better.

Here is one that has a BIN of $22 http://www.ebay.com/itm/PROOF-164-O...em2a1bf1b452

I did know that Stallzer as I did read through it and also paid way less than the asking price. I made an offer of $15.00 and he accepted it (I believe it was like $20.00 after shipping I think.)but I didn't think he would misrepresent the items he was selling but in any case I am going to keep it but may call and tell them of my dismay anyway and see what happens.
Thank you for the link you have been VERY helpful and for that I am grateful!

I talked to William and he said that they just picked one off the top of the pile and sent it out and to send it back for a better one. I asked for it to be purple and much cleaner than the one I received. He said he would also look at and appraise anything I wanted help with out of my collection for free. Now that's service! Sweeet!

Glad to hear he stepped up to the plate. $15 for a Plate proof on card is not a bad price as it's 50% of Catalog value and in my opinion, that's fair. Hope the next one he sends out resembles the one he advertised.

OK, this one is much better in my opinion! It looks even better and brighter in hand too. At least this one is purple this time!
