Holocaust Rememberence Day, 2012

While Katchem maybe showed a little lack of thought before posting, I know he meant nothing by it. I have had dealings with him in the past [indeed he has a lot of my Middle East stuff] and he has always been a great person to do business with.

The Deir Yassin tragedy was a sad consequence of a conflict fought by two 'illegal' rag tag armies during a time of transition and great tension. Aside from the loss of life, there were two very sad aspects of the story [for me]; the village had peaceful and friendly relations with the nearby Haredi village of Givat Shaul and those residents came to [belatedly] help on that fateful day.
The other fact was that after the War of Independence, cabinet Ministers and Army personnel wrote to the new Prime Minister [Ben Gurion] about leaving Deir Yassin as a memorial to the Palestinians killed and a reminder of a tragedy. But it was believed the letter was never read or seen and the site was taken over for use as a mental hospital.
