Dr Sun Yat Stamp Need Clarification.

Stamp cancelled in 1948 at a place known as Kienow.Have tried searching this place but no such place could be trced with the name Kienow, in the past and present.Except that a American airstrip based in China during the 2nd world war was known as Kienow. There is also a famous story in the net "The ghost plane of Kienow" relating to the airstrip.Could a stamp have been cancelled in a airstrip during then? Any other opinions?

The city was spelled Kienow at that time. Today, it is spelled Jianou, and is located in the province of Fujian in China.

I don't collect postmarks, but that style of the postmark does not appear standard (either format, or year configuration) Chinese PO postmark. So it may have been associated with the airstrip? Hopefully, someone familiar with the airstrip postmark can chime in.

And according to Wiki, Jian'ou was formely known as Jianning, hence the '(KIENNING)' in the CDS.

Very good! I couldn't read that, and didn't know about the other spelling!

Can you figure out the 2 characters in parentheses beneath the Chinese "Jianou" at top?

I'm not 100% certain, but I strongly suspect 'Jianning'. (SCF won't reproduce characters, but I'm sure you know the 'ning' I mean ...)
