Help Identify Please

Hi All,

am having quite a time trying to identify this stamp. Any ideas?
I thought Tibet but can't find anything even close.

Tibet was my first feeling as well Marios. I wonder if it is possibly still Tibet but some sort of revenue? Failing that, maybe an obscure Indian State??

Thanks. Looks like it's Nepal Sc#10a . Am sure it's real. Who would go to the trouble to forge a 50c stamp?

I think both stamps are probably genuine. They were reprinted oveer a long period, and the plates deteriorated badly over time.

Your example, BAYERN1kreuzer, has a telegraphic cancel, and mariost's copy probably does too. Telegraphic cancels are much more common than postal cancels, particularly on these values. Entire sheets of 64 with telegraphic cancels come to the market regularly.

Sorry to disappoint! I only collect the Indian States, and while Nepal was once classified as an Indian State, I don't try to collect it.

Those first issues - like the ones shown - are a specialist's delight. They were re-printed many times, the plates were taken apart and put together again, and in the case of the two stamps I showed above, the plates were completely re-cut. You can see that there are far fewer lines in the frame of the right-hand stamp than in the left. This was the result of re-cutting.
