I've done the foil test, and no raised pattern emerged, ergo Offset.

I am thinking the one on the L is 530 and the two on the R are 529?

The toga button line seems firmer in the L stamp -- but I am totally cross-eyed after trying to id NYC precancels all day, and I can't see any difference in the P and O join.

Am I just being misled by the difference in color?!
Can anyone help?
Cheers.

Your images are a little blurry, but when I enlarge them there does not appear to be a line of color between the "P" and "O" of "Postage". This would make all three Type IV. http://1847usa.com/washfrank/3cT3_4...nd%20%22O%22 This link should show you the differences

I came across this severely off-center precancel in my collection. It is perf. 11, so I think all of the identifying features would suggest it is a Scott 530 (Type IV) Offset. Am I correct?

The color of the stamp has me puzzled, though. Is this a known color for the stamp or has it been altered somehow? The Scott Catalog suggests the color could be either purple, light purple, deep purple or violet. Which is shown here?

Not quite sure, wt1, but I wanted to say that I lived just south of there and worked just north of there. Small world.
