Most mint US postage from that time period are worth face value (nothing more). In some cases, depending on what you define as "a ton of postage", you would be able to resell it only at a percentage of face value (i.e. 85% or so).
The easiest and best way to dispose of it would be to use it for postage on your own mail. If the quantity is well beyond that, try auctioning it off by lots on sites such as
ebay to see if anyone may have interest. Or you could try and auction it off here at Stamp Collecting Forum (but you'd need your 50 posts first).
If the blocks and long strips have plate numbers on their selvage, there are some collectors who collect those configurations exclusively; just as there are collectors who collect only booklets.
"Collectible" doesn't always mean "valuable", though, and unfortunately the sheer quantity of US stamps that flooded the market in the mid-20th century has resulted in most items being quite common and ultimately of little premium value over face. There are, of course, some exceptions but they are few and far between.
