Hi David
Yes this is a Japanese card called Hagaki. it is the standard postcard in Japan.Lots sent during New years.The 55. 5 .5 is the date. If the stamps are of the 1955 era then it is a western style date. If the stamps really don't corrispond with the date the the Japanese calandar was used.
