Hello,
1)I notice the following stamp has a missing perforation. How does this reflect on the value of the stamp?
2) I notice several types in the Scott catalog which one is this?
3) What is the best perforation scale to use. I haven't got one and would like to buy.

Thank You for your help!

Ann

Could you mark on the stamp, the "missing perforation"?

Other than the rounded upper right corner, all the perforation holes seem to be there. I may have misunderstood your question #1.

"best" will be a matter of opinion.

But the 2 I use most frequently are the Linn's Multi-Gauge and the Sonic Imagery Labs' Precision U.S. Specialty Multi-Gauge. Pros and cons to each one, but the two combined...

You can do a search, there should be a couple of threads on these and other perforation gauges.

Technically, yes. Rounded corner is just a nice way of saying a piece of the corner is missing. The catalog prices in Scott are for VF stamps free of faults. The higher the catalog price, the greater the hit the retail value takes.

Nevertheless, I still like your stamp!

While many collectors like to get hold of that "perfect" stamp, I think your stamp has character -- a battle-experienced veteran with the medal (i.e., postmark) and the scars to show for it. There is value in a stamp far beyond the quantification efforts of catalog prices.

In the Scott catalog, Malta #8(1Jan1885) -- the one half penny green.
