Those are real. Originals (on left) issued from 1899-1907. The overprints on the right hand stamp are from Japanese Offices in China 1900-1906. Notice the yellow overprinted stamp is postmarked Shanghai.
Thanks jamesw. Did japan issue same type stamps in diffrent colors the reason I ask is because I have two 3 sen stamps and one is red with an overprint and the other with no overprint is purple both seem to have genuine post stamps.
I'm certainly no expert on Japan, and a picture might help. But the same issue, in the 1899-1907 period, did have two 3 sen stamps, SC#97 which was violet brown and a 3 sen rose colour, SC#98 issued in 1906.
The stamps you have scanned are a 'definitive' type of stamp. They were issued from many plates as they were worn etc. When plates were either repaired or replaced, there were colour changes to a small degree and minor plate vraieties as well showing where the repairs were made, such as re-entries etc.
I too am not a Japanese expert, but, this is the best advice I have <G>.
