Quote: The 21-cent stamps, which could not be used as postage, would allow Americans to show support for the troops...The stamp-sale proceeds would be split equally among three areas: programs for veterans, aid to the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service, and deficit reduction. A novel idea in 2012 to say the least: http://www.nationaljournal.com/lawm...ram-20120518Merely a proposal at this point, though. What do you think?

I'd rather see the entire amount go to veterans' programs. I refuse to donate a dime to the USPS, and the other third will just be paper savings that will be immediately offset by a spending increase elsewhere. |

It sounded like a good idea until you get to"The stamp-sale proceeds would be split equally among three areas: programs for veterans, aid to the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service, and deficit reduction". If the intent is to support Vets, give them all the proceeds, otherwise why not just do a semi-postal with the same benefit. Want to support the vets? Pick one of the many worthy orgs and send a check. Wounded Warriors, USO, DAV, VFW, etc. Maybe a new series of "seals" to benefit vets would work. They already send return address labels. |

one question- why cannot these be used postally? Seems to defeat the purpose. I did not know this however: *Quote: the World War II Victory Stamps, which raised enough to pay for 90,000 jeeps * Quoted from the provided link's article. |

What "World War II Victory Stamps" are being referred to in the article? Were those postage stamps? Were they War Savings Stamps? Were they something else? I don't believe it was either US #905 or #907, which were used for regular postage. |

Quote: War Savings Stamps That's it! Whether or not we agree with the proposal at hand, does anyone else find it curious that they are identifying the stamps under the current proposed bill at a value of 21-cents? Why? Wouldn't 25-cents, 50-cents or even $1 make more sense and simplify the process? |

I can only guess -- the amount is divisible by 3 and, if like the WWII program school children will be the target of the effort, it isn't such a large amount that would preclude the average child from participating. |

Quote: school children will be the target of the effort Less than a quarter. Sounds right. If it will be issued in less quantity than a regular stamp for postal use then the rarity (or supposed rarity) would be an extra attraction. |

Here's the initial design proposal for the Victory for Veterans Stamp (I think it still needs a bit of work artistically, though, as it needs to be "modernized" and not be a throw-back to the World War II stamp design from which this idea was borrowed): For more information as to the actual bill being presented for consideration, check out this link: http://larson.house.gov/images/vict...%20pager.pdf |

The best way to help the USPS is to stop making them pay 80 years in advance in for health insurance for current and future hires.
But every time someone brings that up (even Obama), Congress immediately screams that it's against the law. So, if the USPS fails, it will be because politicians couldn't do what was needed. Not because these things were never issued. |

I think certain politicians want the USPS to fail (aka "the wrecking crew"). Find the politicans who do not want to fix any problems plaguing the USPS and check to see if those same politicans have received "donations" from the UPS or FedEx.
As for the charity stamp design, I think I like the vintage style of design. |

That "charity" stamp design may become a problem if this proposal goes through, as someone ripped off the design from a WWII period cachet as shown here: If the bill does pass, I expect the design will be changed before the final printing, so it's probably not a big deal, but given the disastrous problems the USPS faced with copyright infringement on the Korean War Stamp, I expect their legal team will be very sensitive to make certain the same thing doesn't happen again. |

It's not a stamp, it's a label. Since it can't be used for postage, I would imagine very few will be sold. They should have just done a semipostal with the excess going to vets.
FAIL. |
