When people learn I 'save stamps' some of them tear the corners from envelopes and 'save' them for me. Unfortunately my mom used to go a step further. She would get me stamp-related gifts she'd see advertised in magazines. My least favorite is a 6-month subsciption to 'Golden Replica' FDCs from Franklin Mint. I'm sure it cost her a 'mint', pun intended. I finally told her that if she wanted to get me stamps she should get them straight from the post office. Even if I don't want them for my collection, at least they're useful for postage! What stamp-related gifts have your well-meaning friends and relatives gotten for you?

Stamps on approval from Mystic Stamp Company.
Is any of the stuff Franklin Mint makes worth anything? |

My grandmother would save me stamps with all the perforations trimmed off. |

Strangely the least wanted stamp gift I ever got was on the front of Stanley Gibbons Stamp Monthly - they gave away some free Royal Wedding stamps from a commonwealth island. Even my six year old didn't want them! |

I used to have friends save stamps for me that they "tore off the envelope" (didn't soak, just tore the stamps right off the envelope) so I had piles of thinned stamps that were absolutely worthless.
Eventually, I asked these same friends to save the entire envelopes for me; or if there were personal addresses involved, at least the entire corner showing the postmark and the stamp. |

Absolutely nothing. I have never received a stamp-related gift, nor have I ever asked for one. I have everyone trained to just buy things off my Amazon list and I take care of all my collecting needs on my own. |

One of my well-meaning aunts used to make sure she sent me nice stamps on her envelopes and she made sure they wouldn't fall off by scotch-taping them there. I tried to tell her not to but she said well, she couldn't work up enough spit to get them to stick.

One year my wife got me a little Christmas gift of a paperback book called something like "The Little Black Book of US Postage Stamps and prices". I wouldn't say that it was a completely useless book - It was compact and had a lot of black and white illustrations and prices - it's just that she had no concept of what my full sized "Scott U.S. Specialized Catalogue" contained and how this little book was pretty much useless by comparison.
It's like buying an 8-foot rowboat for a person who owns a 60-foot yacht!
Naturally, I convincingly and enthusiastically said, "Uh... Thanks, Honey!" with a big smile (and later donated it to the local youth stamp club) |

No, never had a stamp related gift but when I was young my mother never oppose that I spend my hardly earn money on stamps. When there is a family reunion sometime I show my stamps, they find them interesting. That's the best gift I can have. |

My cousin from Belgium gave me an old album loaded with WW stamps. Ony problem was that all of the dtamps were stuck down with Scotch tape He meant well, but, what a let-down. My wife also gives me mail from her workplace and some of the items I don't really like are the electronic images on some. I guess in the future they might be respected as postal history items (?)
