Oh, now that sucks! Sounds like it's time for a bunch of us to go in on a complete uncut press sheet and chop it up.

Holy cow, apastuszak! This is sure getting complicated, isn't it? If others are willing to get in on this great offer on the press sheet, that would be fine. If not, I'll go fifty-fifty with you. That would be about $26 for each of us. I don't seriously think we'd lose anything buying the press sheet with all four players on it. Let me know what you think. Any others out there interested?

Is anyone else willing to go in on an uncut press sheet?

So, according to today's Linn's there will only be 1000 uncut press sheets of the se-tenant and and 2500 uncut press sheets of each individual stamp. Sounds like, if you want them, you need to order them ASAP. This is really a PITA.

apastuszak, that was the way I read the article too - 1000 of the se-tenant variety and 2500 each of the individual ones. And the article seemed to indicate that the Postal Service had no intentions of printing more if they sold out. With that in mind, I'm reasonably confident that we should be able to sell those remaining panes/blocks that we don't need.

I'm ordering the se-tenant sheet today. With only a thousand of those things, I think it best to place an order for that ASAP. Hopefully other SCF members will order the other sheets and we can trade. I can't afford to buy all 5 sheets.

Sheet pre-ordered. I'll see how best to carve it up once Linn's updates the Scott listing for the stamps.

apastuszak, okay, I'm in with you on this investment. Let me know how much my total comes to since obviously there will be additional shipping costs, and where to send the check. Thanks for doing this. Yes, it will be smart and interesting to watch how Scott determines how these stamps will be listed.

I already noted on another thread that today's (06/14/2012) Postal Bulletin clearly confirms that the Uncut Press Sheets for these stamps will be limited to quantities of 1000 (4 players) and 2500 (individual players) as previously announced.

I do find it interesting that the USPS has just mailed out postcards to previous customers announcing all of the various philatelic products being made available for this issue and even though they mention "for the first time -- uncut press sheets without die cuts or perfing" the postcard FAILS TO MENTION the limited edition quantities.

In fact, the statement "Order by August 31 to guarantee product availability!" is a bit misleading as it suggests that they expect quantities to exceed demand, even though I personally believe that to be doubtful (at least as far as the limited edition press sheets are concerned).

Yeah, I got one of those cards in the mail. It wasn't the happiest moment in my day. However, I'm a bit intrigued with what the card describes as "10 varieties of First Day Covers..." Based on my math, this would preclude the imperf varieties being included as FDCs. Sure am glad I don't collect 'em!

Correct. The USPS would never consider selling FDOI cancels for the imperforate varieties cut from a press sheet.

The reference to "10 varieties of first day covers" probably refers to the B&W and Digital Color Postmarks available for the four players (on 07/20/2012) at Cooperstown, NY and each individual player (on 07/21/2012) in their hometown:

1. MLB Set of 4 FDCs
2. MLB Set of 4 DCP FDCs
3. DiMaggio FDC
4. DiMaggio DCP FDC
5. Williams FDC
6. Williams DCP FDC
7. Stargell FDC
8. Stargell DCP FDC
9. Doby FDC
10. Doby DCP FDC

I think I mentioned in an earlier thread that since there is to be no appreciable difference between the 4 player stamps and individual stamps, what is the point of having the individual stamps be issued a day later in each of the player's hometowns? It almost seems pointless, as anyone could mix or match any of these stamps for the various postmarks. But then again, the whole idea of a First Day Cover is really pointless too, as we all know few really get postmarked on the actual first day of issue.

There will also be those collectors who will self-service their own covers with the uncut press sheet varieties in various formats; it's just that the USPS won't specifically offer them.

MLB All-Stars Press Sheet (the one with all 4 players) was SOLD OUT on USPS.com as off yesterday 6-18. Interesting that they sold out during a very poorly advertised pre-order period well before they are even officially released. I discovered their existence on this thread recently and the first time I went to USPS.com I could not find them on the site - certainly no prominently displayed! By the time I tried yesterday ... SOLD OUT. Anyone who has successfully pre-ordered and is cutting up the sheet, I would be happy to by an imperf block of four.

I am going to wait to see how Scott lists these imperfs. If they're just listed as an imperf se-tenant, I will cut it up as such and sell. So, expect my decision sometime in the fall when Linn's updates with the new listing.

I'm not doing gutter pairs, so don't even ask.
