I don't collect modern US, but I do still save the ones I receive to give away. So imagine my disappointment to find this in my mailbox today.

I'm surpised - no ink pen/marker cancels on the stamps. what happened to revenue protection USPS?

they don't care...and when they do, we call them "marker monkeys". Seems they (or perhaps WE) cant win.

You can take such items to your local post office where they should be willing to hand cancel the items with post marks.

Too bad a stamp collector can not run the postal service..but I guess that would make too much sense !!

I have noticed that the U.S., Canada and GB are the worse for not cancelling their stamps. I prefer not cancelled though over a felt pen, or ball-poinr pen.

Just the opposite for me today. The monkey marker hit a nice Paul Bunyan stamp I received in the mail today. Those are a nice set of stamps especial the ones on the reverse. Makes for an interesting cover.
