Yesterday, the members of my stamp club, held its first meeting, with the children in our elementary school.

It was decided by the schools principal, that the after-school activity will be open to 5th and 6th graders.

I was not able to attend, since it starts at 3:30Pm, but the two members that attended gave us the report at last evenings club meeting.

There were 11 children who attended, 4 parents, the school principal
and a Social Studies teacher ( who will be in charge, on behalf of the school)

The kids were shown US collections, UN collections, Triangle stamps
and First day covers, for a start.

This Saturday, our club will be meeting at our local library, and we will be making up packets of US presidents on stamps, Tropicals such as butterflies, space ,etc,

I was just a little annoyed that it was not open to kids in all grades, my grandson Anthony is in 2nd grade, but that did not stop
the 4g kid.

His father took him yesterday after school, and he knocked the socks of the 5th graders, showing them his Star Wars covers, and he knocked the socks off of the two club members, when he asked them if they have any German Inflation Stamps

It's really exciting to hear that younger children are getting a chance to decide if they want to get started collecting stamps. Starting a stamp club for youngsters is a wonderful idea. If there is anything I can do to help, just send me an email.

Hi Bobgggg.......

I sounds to me that Anthony just might have the level of interest to become a life long collector. He could also be the catalyst to inspire some of the older kids....also nice to have some parents involved........looks like you've done a good job.

Thanks Tom, but the credit has to go to the schools principal.
For it was she who approached our club with the idea.

As to my grandson...Yea, I think I have him hooked, but I'm very careful not to push it.

I tend to let him play with the stamps, on his time, when he is in the mood.

He was so impressed, when he saw my German inflation stamps, with all the numbers on the stamps. 50,000 marks, 100,000 marks etc.

Greg: we were looking forward to starting the kids off on stamps, but if the parents take an active interest, that's a bonus

Good show, Bob!!

Another "cool" thing that clicks with the kids is Mr.ZIP in the marginal markings. His cartoon antics, and the fact that the USPS brought him out of retirement certainly added to his popularity.

What was the ratio of boys and girls? They tend to have different collecting interests.

Keep up the good work!

David

Bob let me know what topic they decide to go with.

I've been a sorting fool lately and may have some more for them.
