Hello all,
I am very interested in early great britain stamps. I'm talking 1841 till about 1935. Does anybody have a reputable favorite dealer they can recommend. I am looking for the highest quality and cheapest prices. Where do you buy your stamps? Thanks.

I like these folks:

These folks are also good and send really nice catalogues fairly often too.

Have a good one,

I have ordered from Arthur Ryan in London. They have a range of conditions for each issue, from 1840 to the present. As for prices, I really don't have a lot to compare to. It, for me, is a case of do I want the stamp and do I want to pay the price.

With the market the way it is, i'm afraid that "highest quality" and "Cheapest prices" are incompatible!

I think the answer to the question depends on your budget and whether you want to buy complete sets or single, less common, stamps.

Have a look at these websites:

britishstamps.com
johnlamonby.com

and you should also look at what is available on the British auction sites - google "British philatelic auctions" to get lots of addresses.

Also, for the earliest QV Stamps, this is a nice site and a reputable seller.

Footy,
Dauwalders should fit the bill for you.
Whilst not the very cheapest they do have some great prices from time to time on their intel lists. These are specially reduced items that heavily feature the period you are interested in.

Just a quick word of advice; my experience has been that early UK stamps have just about the biggest discount from CV of ANY county or period.

that is because the Victorians loved their heavy cancels, but if you get a mint stamp, or a very fine used, then you have to pay the premium and the value goes up steadily too.

You get what you pay for. it is always nice to pick up a pristine mint nh perfect centered classic for a fraction of catalog, but really how often does that happen in life. If you want the best pay the going price now and reap the rewards down the road. I have a gorgeous PUC POUND value Scott 209 Mint NH and XF centering. I paid top price for this gem 20 years ago and now it looks like a great bargain. In the real world, that is how it works

FBPhilately......don't buy until you get the packet you purchased from me.

Some nice bits and a shame to spend good money on items you already have !
