I don't have a Stanley Gibbons for Japan, but the Scott's catalogue only shows one brown 50 sen stamp from this issue, and that is SC#83 from the 1888-92 series. There is a 50 sen carmine of similar design, issued in 1879 SC#71.
Don't have a current price ($3.25 in 2003).

Yes thanks james I know the 45 sen in this type is quiet high value saying £500 in used condition in stanley gibbon 2005.
