Revenue collectors, that is.

While this isn't the earliest known revenue specialist dealer, I thought it was a neat item.

Certainly a nice cover.

On a history point, can anyone tell me where Coal Valley, Pennsylvania was located? The town doesn't exist today. Obviously, a discontinued post office. Surprisingly, there is very little information I can find on the internet on exactly where Coal Valley was located, however, it looks as if it was in Allegheny County.

NOTE: Jim Forte's Postal History website suggests that the Coal Valley, PA post office was discontinued in 1951. (The Postal Bulletin also suggests that mail from that point was redirected to Clairton, PA.)

It appears Coal Valley was subsumed by Clairton, PA. See http://cityofclairton.com/about-clairton/

As previously mentioned, the cover was sent Registered Mail ("Reg. 13"). I'd love to have seen what the contents were...

Some expensive material no doubt, was wondering if the Reg 13 was for registered.

For whatever it's worth, the addressee, L.E. Gruber was born Luther Ernest Gruber and graduated from the University of Michigan with a Pharmacy degree and was noted on a later census of having been employed as a "drug store clerk" (pharmacist) in Elmira, NY.
