Don't use pictures taken from the internet. As this is taken from Linn's website, you might get into problems (copyright). You could ask them if you can use the pic but I doubt they would allow that. It is much easier to scan such a stamp yourself and use that instead. Maybe some relative or friend has a decent scanner? |

Hmm... I don't know. But I don't have a decent stamp, either, all of the ones I have of this issue are used. I suppose I will just wait until I get my scanner set, and request a different scan. |

.... or .... If an SCF member who has a copy of this stamp is willing to scan it and give you permission to use it - that would be legit. |

In this case, there is no photographer's mark indicating a copyright. I'd also like to know if this photograph can even be copyrighted by anyone other than the issuing country. Prudence might be appropriate here, but I think it reasonable to ask for an explanation before everyone follows suit. |

Strictly speaking the image is copywritable. It is a particular picture of a particular stamp, not just an image of the design itself. It is just that simple.

I've got a number of used Machins that I can provide you with scans of but MH 12 isn't one or them. Are there any others that you'd be intersted in using? |

Tomiseksj~ Maybe one of the ones with both queen Victoria and queen Victoria on them. I think they are sometimes called the double head machins. |

Prudence might be appropriate here, but I think it reasonable to ask for an explanation before everyone follows suit. A photograph is always copyrighted. It belongs to the photographer. It can be sold to someone else, including the copyright. However, this does not mean that anyone without permission has the right to use that picture. This also applies if the photographer violated someone else's copyright. That would be a matter between him and the copyright owner - an example would be someone taking pictures of the Eiffel tower in Paris at night - which is also - strange but true - copyrighted due to the lighting at night. For further information google "photography" and "copyright". The rule of thumb is that you can NEVER use someone else's photography without permission. Copyright infringement can cost you real money so don't do it. Besides that, it isn't good taste to take somebody else's work without asking. George |

But have patience - I think the avatar person is on vacation. Mine and many others have been on the waiting list for a few months. |
