I started collecting when I was 10 and continued into my mid 30's. But then after becoming a single Dad any time for hobbies dissappeared. Now at 65, I've opened the stamp case and starting to get re-involved.

I think my first step will be organizing and cataloging what I have. My collection consists of World Wide, US and US plate blocks. At this point I think I need to get my world wide out of the assorted collection of albums and glassine envelopes and into stockbooks. And catalog my US in an excel spreadsheet.

What stockbook system does everyone like to use?

Next, I guess I'll look forward to meeting up and trading.

No need to waste time with an excel sheet,
they are already listed in a scott catalogue.
Use a highlighter to indicate the stamps you have / want.

Use Hagner style individual stock sheets, and a folder with
sheet protectors, that way you can shuffle pages around
when you are "organising"

That's just my suggestion, do whatever feels good for your collection.

Hi PaulC!

I'm sure you will enjoy it here. I can't really give you advise on what to do, but I would personally "catalog" by taking a pocket sized catalog (simply so that if you went to a show or a shop you could carry it) and circling what you have.

Welcome Paul,
I may just be a product of my generation, but I have found software that is very helpful in keeping track of my collection and wish lists. It allows me to scan and use the actual picture for taking my collection on the road with me being I travel so much. I can also track my purchases, what I have sold and trades. You'll get many ideas from people here and I'm sure you'll figure out what works best for yourself. Look forward to seeing you around.

Hello PaulC, welcome!

Remember to 'Subscribe' to topics.

I like the Vario pages (Rod mentioned Hagner, another brand name of plastic stack pages, just as nice).

But if a solid stock book is what you need then lighthouse brand is a good one.

Can you tell me what software you use and thoughts on your experience?
