2 Quick questions...
I have a block of 21 stamps for Scott #2193 with the top corner being a plate block (#1). Do I leave it alone, or break off the top four to collect separately?
Second, I have a booklet of #2113, but it only shows a value of $2.75 - is this right?!?

Hi, I always leave my attached plate blocks alone. Especially the ones with numbers and lettering or quotes. No matter how many. If your intention is to sell them, then maybe you can split them up. But then again all together they my bring a higher value. Not sure about the booklet...Keith |

If the block of 2193 was mine, I'd set aside the plate block, mount the most nicely centered of the remainder in my album, and use the rest for postage, trade, or sale.
As for the booklet of 2113, the D series stamp, I'm not sure what you're refering to when you say "it" only shows a value of $2.75. In 1985, the booklet cost $4.40 and included two panes of 10 D (22c) stamps. Today's catalog value depends upon the plate number and which pane it is printed on.

Steve,
Thanks for the time you took to reply. Regarding the 'D' series #2113 booklet, the price quote came from a Mystic catalog. The plate block number for the booklet is #3. Hope this helps in determining a more accurate value.

The 2011 Scott Specialized gives a value of $8.50 for a pane of 10 of the 2113 and $17.00 for the complete, 2-pane booklet with Plate#3. I just looked at the Mystic catalog and the $2.75 appears to be what they charge for a single booklet stamp -- Scott valued a VF MNH single at $0.80 in 2011. |

Mystic provides a great catalog and that's about it for stamps. They are in business to make money just like every other company and they need to make a profit. That being said, their prices for stamps are way over priced and I would never buy a stamp from them. They have other products that are more in-line with reality and of good quality so don't cross them off your list.

And, their free online catalog is very good (ignore the prices) if you do not have a Scott available. Comprehensive, with nice color images. |

Thanks everyone. I've got the 6-set complete world catalogs from 2009, but I often resort to the Mystic catalog for quick reference (plus it's a lot smaller). The Scott catalogs are good for detailed information and specific markings/hidden features/etc.
I appreciate the opinions and recommendations from everyone - this forum is wonderful for beginners like me!
