Which foreign country has the best appeal. My inherited stamps are a treasure and I think there could be some real value, but will most likely keep them and pass on. I believe I have about 10k stamps. Give me a suggestion of country and I will share and get opinions.Ivy

My two favourite foreign countries are Great Britain and Germany with emphasis on pre-1950 except for Machins which will take me forever to collect. |

Welcome to SCF ivyeyz.
I think that if you scan the threads that are posted on the forum you'll quickly see that there is no correct answer to the question of "best appeal" and that anything you post will be of interest to at least one other forum member. |

I was assuming the poster meant financially. As far as aesthetically, there are no rules for Stamp collecting as there is something out there that appeals to each collector in a different way. That is the beauty in this hobby and it give collectors the chance to exchange interests through beautiful little pieces of paper. |

Thanks for all the input everyone. I am already addicted. This pre 1940 collection has been in my closet since my dad passed 10 yrs ago. I didn't realize how popular a hobby this was. I have small collection of covers as well, that are fun to look at. My favorite is little America Byrd expedition from Antartica, mail was delayed a year. Will be working on getting some stuff on here. Thanks again ..Ivy |

Ivyeyz, Yes, I also liked the Byrd expedition cover. I posted one a while ago, and here it is again. A definite favorite of mine, plus it is posted to a relative. |

Does anyone have a cover of the Byrd expedition sent to or from Antarctica? Is that even possible? Does McMurdo have a post office (I should ask my wife, since she's been there). |

Here are a couple of covers from McMurdo station in my collection. The second scan is also signed by a member of the National Science Foundation. Chimo Bujutsu |

That's cool. After a short Internet search, indeed it seems there probably are covers of the Byrd stamp sent from Antarctica (it would be nice to see one though). Not from McMurdo, most likely, as that wasn't opened officially until 1956, but from the expedition site, Little America, in 1934. http://www.south-pole.com/p0000143.htm |
