I recently picked up a collection of stamps at a garage sale $50 3 books filled with Stamps One dedicated to US "The American Album for United States Stamps" 1938 the other two are World Wide with US in them both, "Modern postage stamp album", 1940 and "Postage Stamp Album No. 2058" I don't know the year but it's extremely old. All the Albums have plenty of Used and Unused stamps in them, mostly from the late 1800's to early 1900s.

Here are the oldest from the dedicated US Album. It was noted that the collector (the woman's father) properly ID all the US stamps, making my job easy.

Cat 184 - 207 and 210

It's going to take a while to go through it all but I can't wait

Good find Joe,
I know your wrought with excitement of what treasure(s) might appear within the collection.

The two 3c Washington are exactly what I am working on now trying to figure out which one I have.
Its a heck of a hunt with the different variations.
Could the top 3c considered to be the re-engraved and the bottom 3c the original?
Then there is the paper type, the grill, the shading of the left ribbon.
Maybe a expert from the forum can give both of us some guidance, my old eyes are tired from an hour of pouring over the stamp with a jewelers loupe!

Chuck

Sounds like a nice find. I've been thinking of visiting estate and garage sales to look for stamps, but don't really have the time. I'm also afraid I'll bring back a bunch of other junk I don't really need.

Not to be the bearer of bad tidings and no offense, but I've acquired stamps were supposedly properly identified and found many mistakes, sometimes in my favor. Now, I re-identify everything that comes in...well I plan to do that, because as a result, I have a pile a stamps to (re)identify.

The albums have a lot of stamps gonna take me a while to go through it all but what a find!

@Rileysan very true, it was nice to hear thew story about her dad and his passion for collecting.

@ W9 I think the number are correct (I Hope, LOL) but if anyone feels diffrent plaese chime in.

@ Hungry I hear you on that I to do check, only a rare few garage/estate sales have stamps. You have to look at the package they are selling. I passed up on a few recently one had all the Franklin Mint First day covers, the owner thought they would sell for $300. I felt bad telling them that most of the covers were only worth about $0.20.

I do get some good finds, I onced purchased a varity pack of Stamp gaurd mounts for $1 - it has 350 mounts. So the deals are out there!

It's great when, as a collector, you find some nice items. Happy Hunting!
