To Grade or not to Grade?

I wouldn't bother with paying someone to put a mythical number to it. Any knowledgeable collector can clearly see the beauty in that piece. Nice to have one with the BEP imprint too :) I too am in the process of trying to complete this set in Mint well centered pieces but it will take time to accumulate the big dollar key values. I did however recently acquire this one.

Both examples posted so far are stunning. This is a set I dearly want to complete in Mint, VF or better but LH is ok with me.

I agree on price to complete this set, it's going to be painful but the end result will be something to cherish and pass down to my girls. I've been keeping my eyes and ears open for the best affordable stamps to complete this series. I had them once already but they where all poor copies with a lot of faults. I'm going to try and collect them all with the engraving margins. Should take some time to complete.

These are my hi-val TM's. The first 50cent I bought in NYC many years ago from a dealer I didn't trust 100%. He said get a good PF cert or he would refund - to my amazement it came back clean. The 2$ was one of the first stamps I bought off of ebay, in the 1990's. The 1$ from ebay sometime later. The other 50cent I could not decide if it was better than the first so I bought it also from ebay for 30% of the first one. Needless to say - I am an ebay fan.

Those truly are gems Chasa. They are all very well balanced Stamps and the $1 & $2 are a couple of the small percentage of stamps in the world that will always be investment stamps that will actually bring a return.

Updated to where the collection will stall until I get the couple of Thousand dollars to get the last 3.

I love the centering on everything I have seen so far. I got very
lucky many years ago (pre E-Bay) when the government was selling off
property for non-payment of taxes. These two items were available,
along with several other gems. I think the identification was, "Old
US Stamps". Anyway, there was only one other bidder and I, and I won
both (with Certs) for about $300. Best money I ever spent.

Not as well centered, and hinge marks, but I love them.
