There is a note in the catalog that specifically states "Many color shades known". Obviously there are too many to make listing them possible/practical.

True.

But, if you examine the range of shades, they do vary, but fall into two broad categories that match the two scans in the OP.

It's the "range of shades" that keeps the catalog editors from granting official recognition to any of the specific shades.

UPSS list nine different types of this 34c Federal Eagle envelope,
UPSS #'s 3615 to 3622. The first 7 are on white (Tyrone) paper and the last two are on blue/grey(Manistique)paper.
