This was hinged in an album I purchased under Scott #491 is that correct?

I would say it was a type III not type II. The biggest giveaway is the two lines in the first fold of the ribbon to your right.

It is a possibility but the inking is a bit unclear in the secong curve in the ribbon above the right 2. One vertical line in the curve is a #491; two vertical lines eliminates it being a #491. Check out www.1847USA.com You will find excellent charts on identifying "Two" and "2" cent stamps of this issue.

Oh, Joe Stamps, one could only wish it were a 491. They catalogue for quite a bit.

Hi, I am puzled with mine to, its points towards beeing type III but is it?
Just recently purchased it and seems there is some fault line form forehead up to the mout.

I purchased an album, then I purchased a PENCIL, you would be amazed at how many rare stamps are now in my album! :)

As a owner of hundreds of these it finally became a little easier. What I decided was the Type II had to meet all of the criteria listed at 1847usa. I have several different that cross over into that no mans land (no Type II land) Think about it. If you were in the market to buy one would you buy one that had any Type III traits? I don't think so. It is a Type III.
