Lately there has been great discussion about minor changes on SCF. The administrator has graciously extended an open invitation for anyone/everyone to participate on this site with reasonable and limited restrictions. Everyone should be mindful that we are here due to the generousity of the administrator and if you don't wish to abide by the rules then go elsewhere.

The membership of SCF is prodominately respectful of these rules but the changes in the BST still seems to be an issue with a few. I seee SCF as a great information resource do a google search about anything philatelic and you will probably get a SCF hit. I feel that is is a information site not a sales site.

The combined knowledge of the membership here seemingly eclipses that of other online sites. Additionally the moderators and administrator are polite and allow for vigorous discussions which is sometimes uncommon on other sites.

Most collectors do not have the luxury of a large and knowledgeable local stamp club or major philatelic library in their area and SCF fills that void. SCF has become one of the philatelic information gems of the internet, what a loss it would be if it was turned off.

We are all guests here, please be mindful and respectful to that fact.

EDIT per sharksfan (thanks).

Russ,
You are so right. This is the main reason I came here to begin with.

Well worded Russ - but I think you mean SCF, not SFC

Right on Russ!

That's why I became a supporter months ago. The knowledge I was receiving far exceeded my contributions.

I've participated in a lot of forums. Heck I remember bulletin boards. *LOL*

This is one of the most respectful sites I've ever encountered. Let's not mess it up!

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

Absolutely - in the last 8 years I've left 2 previous discussion groups because they just simply became non-user-friendly places to talk stamps. I really enjoy what SCF has to offer. Keep up the cooperation and friendliness, everyone! (Remember, it's only a hobby!)

I don't really use the Buy/Sell/Trade area very often, so it is difficult to be critical about something that so rarely affects me. I'm in agreement with the very positive feedback that others have contributed about SCF. Whatever you administrators and moderators are doing, don't stop doing it. SCF is the best source of information about stamp collecting that I've ever found. Kudos all around!

Agreed. I do not have, nor do I think that I will ever have, the depth of information that some of you possess. It is truly amazing. Many times I feel that I am only a user here because of my lack of knowledge. Maybe, as time goes by, that can change. It is incredible how a question can be answered within 10 minutes (or sooner).

Some of you have quite a good sense of humor and I appreciate how it is not used at someone else's expense. There are not many places left where that is the norm. It's good to see that civility is still practiced somewhere.

Its nice to take a moment and count our blessings.
I am so appreciative of the warmth, friendship and camraderie to be found on SCF. When things occasionally get heated, its often quickly and peaceably resolved. So many other places on the internet are just unpleasant to be around and no-one appears to be civil to one another. I can't stand that. There is an air of mutual respect to be found on SCF which is rare.
And I haven't even mentioned the stamp knowledge yet! Everyone from the greenest of newbies to the experts in their field can contribute, due to the open nature of the discussions, and the wide range of threads.
For many of us it is the only stamp club we have access to.
Good to know you, folks!

I have asked a fair number of questions over the years I have been here and have always received knowledgeable and courteous answers. The value of SCF is hard to quantify. Knowing that you can get information on any philatelic topic imaginable is a wonderful thing.

Let's keep SCf the great forum that it is.

I am still extremely new here, so I hope I don't step on any toes if I chime in. I must say, that after spending some time searching through the site, that this is the most information about philately that I've ever found in one place. The knowledge and friendliness has nearly overwhelmed me. I consider this an invaluable resource.

That said, I am a member of similar group for another hobby of mine. At times, there are some pretty heated discussions that take place, but in the end, as long as there is mutual respect, they can be very thought provoking, and allow each of us to see things though a new point of view. It is a wonderful world where two people, connected only thought a similar interest, can one day meet up, and feel like they've known each other all their lives.

Heated is perfectly fine, you just have to remember one important thing...

Debate the topic, not the people.
