"The Scott catalog editors announced in early September that they will not assign separate Scott catalog numbers for stamps without die cuts (imper-forate stamps) from press sheets of recent U.S. stamp issues. "Catalogue numbers will not be assigned to imperforate versions of stamps found only in press sheets because these items violate clause 6 of the Scott Catalogue Listing Policy," said Scott catalog new issues editor Martin J. Frankevicz. "These items will be mentioned and valued along with other position pieces that can be cut from press sheets in footnotes below the set."
The clause 6 listing reads, in part: "Intentional varieties, such as imperforate stamps that look like their perforated counterparts and are usually issued in very small quantities. Also stamps purposefully issued in artificially small quantities or only against advance orders of these kinds of items are usually controlled issues and/or are intended for speculation. These items normally will be included in foot-notes."
Uncut press sheets for the Major League Baseball All-Stars stamps (July 20), the War of 1812 stamp (Aug. 18) and the Purple Heart stamp (Sept. 4) have been intentionally manufactured and issued wi the standard die cuts seperating ng the individual stamps on the sheets."
The USPS has always claimed the uncut press sheets were not for philatelists. Looks like Scott agrees with them.
I finally figured out (duh!) that ALL the MLB press sheets can be cut into four blocks in correct Scott # order. You are left with four singles, in the format of two se-tenant pairs of two stamps (which proves they are from the 4-variety press sheet, not from the other 1-variety press sheets, if that matters).
