I was going through my collection and noticed one stamp in my Susan B Anthony plate block (Scott 784) is missing a period! Lower right. Yay!

Listed in Scott's Specialized, listed at $4.00 mint. Congratulations, but I don't think it will pay your mortgage.

Yeah, ain't that the way? But it's still kinda cool. I like it because it's part of a plate block.

Although it only cats $4, I have a feeling that this is the kind of plate flaw that one could spend a lot of time looking for.
There isn't a lot of interest, so it cats very little, so there isn't a lot of interest. :-)
Always nice to find these types of minor varieties.

I have been on the lookout for a no-dot SBA for some time. No such luck.

Didn't mean to be a buzz-kill. Have to admit, you've got me looking at all my Ms. Anthony's (no luck of course).

Jamesw, no problem at all. Like revcollector says, "There isn't a lot of interest, so it cats very little, so there isn't a lot of interest. :-)"

Sometimes, when you talk about it, it might generate interest; which might increase the catalog value; which might generate more interest...

Maybe you just started something...

The Scott catalog also suggests that the missing period variety is limited only to the LR stamp in Plate Number 21590, meaning there is only one stamp out of every 100 that would contain the missing period.

We could write about this for the next year, it would still be a very minor variety. Scott 784 had a quantity issued of 269,522,200, but I don't have a Durland so I don't know how many plates were used. I suspect that plate 21590 would have been used for at least 35,000 impressions and possibly more, so supply should still outweigh demand although finding a used example on cover would be a real challenge.

2012 Durland says 4 plates 21588,89,90&91 of 400-4 panes of 100. I guess if you assume equal use (big if) you can calculate how many are out there?

So, looking at 2011 Scott Specialized U.S., it states "period missing after B (21590 LR 100)". So, one out of 400, right? Four plates printing a total of 269,522,200.
269,522,200 / 4 plates = 67,380,550
67,380,550 / 400 stamps = about 168,452 stamps with the missing period
Seems like a lot.

I don't think it's such a big if on a commemorative of this era. And 168,452 is a large number. One would have to assume that there are still at least 20-25 thousand mint examples and possibly more, and the same number of used examples. As I said before, I feel the real challenge is finding it on cover. It would take a lot of looking in $1 boxes.
