This is a military cover, well actually an AFALS (Armed Forces Air Letter Sheet) that was cancelled with different unit markings. Granted, it is philatelic in nature, but, there are some cancels on this cover that are 'almost' impossible to get used through the regular stream. I get them where I can get them while I can get them <G>

I have shown the front and back both.

and on the U.S. Classic forum, to boot.

A little too new for me, but still neat.

Obviously, this went from Yemen to Italy. What is the OFPO mark on the back? Must be in the same location as the CAPO, since it has an "a.m." strike on the same day?

Apparently so cjd

The was a major in the 1960s to early 1980s in the Canadian forces that tried to accumulate as many unit markings and cancellations he could, He did a good job of it too because I have seen 100s of covers to or from this major with an assortment of different markings in various dealer's boxes.

I'm having trouble thinking of his name, but was it something like Major Malott?

Yes, it was Major (ret'd) Richard K. Malott. Dick is very active in the Canadian Aerophilatelic Society (amongst some 30 or more philatelic societies of which he is a member) and is on the organizinf committee of ORAPEX ( orapex.ca ) one of Canada's few National-level (and World Series of Philately) shows held in Ottawa the first weekend in May each year. He's a force of nature well into his 80's and a font of philatelic knowledge!

Correct. When I posted this yesterday, I couldn't remember his name.

There was also another man in the Canadian miitary that was doing things similar to R.K. Mallott and I think his name was Vanderburg (?)

Sardinia was always a great short period posting to get away from the cloudy and rainy winters of Germany.

Bujutsu: given your influence with the powers that be you should ask to have this placed in the Canadian section. It will bring tears to the eyes of old vets. Here is a recent magazine article related to the Sardinia base that will interest fishermen.

I think you just click on "note to staff". Watch yourself though, it may be like slipping behind the "green door".
