I inherited a fairly large collection of UN FDCs, mostly Fleetwood cachets but some early ArtCraft as well, years 1951-2000 (though not complete in each year), plus a smattering of UN postcards, postal stationery, etc. Is there a catalog considered to be best for documenting this collection?

The Scott Specialized Catalog of US Stamps lists all of the UN FDC material within their stamp listings, as well as postal stationery items. As you probably know, UN material does not have much of a secondary market value. The Scott catalog shows that most UN FDC's go for catalog minimum of $1 retail and only a small percentage of that figure on the secondary market. Fleetwood and Artcraft cachets are among the most common ones, too.

Thanks, wt1, I'll keep an eye out for a used copy of that cat. And yes, I know the UN FDCs as well as the UN postal issues (I have many single and various types of blocks) don't have a large market value, but I would like to document the collection nonetheless. It gives me a practical reason to browse all the art, which isn't always great but has some historical interest for me.

If catalog "values" aren't important to you, but you just want to document the UN catalog numbers for the FDC's you have, here's a cheap alternative. It's only $5 (2011 edition) which should be fine for your purposes and it includes all US, Canada and UN stamps by Scott Catalog number. Just don't hold too much faith in their valuations, as most items are overpriced as compared to the values used in the Scott Catalog:

I picked up the 1997 Scott's worldwide 6-volume catalog from my local library back in '98 or '99, so I have a ref for cat'ing all the postal issues, it's more the FDCs and specialties that I'd like to document. Looks like the Whitman's is just stamps, but thanks for the link, that's a good price, I may pick it up for my modern stuff.
