Definitely legitimate! It may be one of the "Waterbury fancy cancels" but not I'm not positive as I'm just starting to explore these myself. I really enjoy these and thing that they are very fun to look at and collect. I love your example and you should be proud to own it!

Search the forum, "fancy cancel" there's entire thread with links that will help you identify this cancel. You can even print them.
