I bought some used US recent commemmoratives from a seller on ebay, and they are off paper, in great condition, which I have not been successful with myself. I emailed him and asked him how he does it, but he didn't anser me. So I was wondering if anyone on here knows him or maybe he's on here himself. Here is a link to one of his auctions:

His auctions seem very reasonably price. I assume there's some duplication. I don't collect US past the year 2000.
I dont like the self adhesives. Still, these may be good material for trades.

This closed listing includes instructions on several ways of how to remove the stamps without damage, and without using water.

Peter, I've seen instructions in other threads, but it seems like using mineral spirits or similar smelly stuff would still leave a lot of sticky residue behind. So I was wondering if there was an easier way that would make the stamps come out in great condition.

Matt, thank you for sharing that link! I'd much rather try Pure Citrus than any of those really smelly solutions like naptha or mineral spirits. Doesn't the oil stain the stamps though?

Ive used lighter fluid, and I have a handful of sticky stamps left from it. The article says to use talc. But another has pointed out that some may find the stamp unacceptable with talc on it. So, are we left with trimming the paper? Is talc on the back of modern PSAs gonna be a norm?

I have used stuff like rubbing alcohol and lighter fluid and other such things...
The all seem to have downsides, though. It's time consuming, and some stamps dont react well (I now have several "colors missing" stamps...) I find it better to just leave them on paper, myself.

I haven't had any issue with discoloration. I also like to use a credit card or similar straight edge to scrape off the resulting goo after you contact the stamp with the air freshener. That way, if you're careful there is no sticky residue at all remaining. I've had just as good results using Bestine, if not better. Bestine is essentially mineral spirits, and you can pick it up in an art store. It is colorless. You owe it to yourself to try a few of these out. The results can truly be tremendous.

Perhaps it's just what I was using, the alcohol. It worked fine on most but removed everything but yellow from others. (don't remember that problem with the lighter fluid).

Yes,

My daughter and I actually experimented with a half dozen or more solvents for her science fair project and denatured alcohol was one of the poorer ones. My favorite is the air freshener (d-limonene) or the Bestine.

I don't collect them. When I get one I know is self adhesive. I just throw it away. If I get a stamp and it's clean I keep it. I just wish I knew where (Scott #) they started using the self adhesives.
