This color guide specifies certain Scott #'s. I'm wondering if I can check the color of other stamps, like the 332 2c Washington. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I received the following answer from Amos Publishing:

re: Scott Specialized Color Guides for United States Stamps
"The colors used by the USPS and the BEP often differed from batch to batch, so there is no telling how they differed over a 40 year period. The colors used in the guide were matched to specific issues and vetted by specialists. I cannot say that the carmine used to identify US Scott 220 is the same carmine used for any other US issue."

I don't know why I didn't go to them first.
