... sitting in the first day of the 2-day local stamp show, getting a bit fatigued in the mid-afternoon... and getting a phone call from my local coin/stamp dealer saying "Hey, I just bought a U.S. revenue collection over the counter. Do you want me to hold it for you?"

In all the years I've been buying, this is the first revenue collection that he's ever had anyone bring in.

I ducked out of the show early, trotted over, gave it a quick perusal and promptly bought it. No heavy hitters, but a few nice cancels, some interesting documents, and just hundreds and hundreds of 1st-3rd issue, reds, greens, wines, m&ms, and miscellaneous. When just 1 stamp on 1 document catalogs almost double the asking price of the entire collection, there's no such thing as a down side... sometimes a price is just too cheap to say no to, regardless of the contents.

I love getting lots. I wish there were stamp clubs or shows near me.
Sounds like a great score.

Sounds like the dealer did not know what he had, and was too lazy to do some research.

No, he's all about the quick flip. If he can buy a collection for $200 and sell it for $300 the same day, he'll do it, even if the collection is really worth $500 or more. His primary business is coins, so if he can make easy money for no work, no problem.

(I'm MORE than happy to avail myself of the situation. )

sweet! I need a dude like that! Here is that link I was thinking about before I noted they was inverts. But you may be interested anyway? I believe they are maybe asking too much, I'm not really familiar with Revenue stamp evaluations.

That's actually a nice lot. I'm tapped out after this weekend's show, or I'd consider bidding on it. In this case it's not the stamps but the usage that holds attraction. Texas usages are somewhat scarce.
