Hi guys
Can you help, I think this is a Scott # 45, but mine is orange and can not see that colour in Scott Cat.

What catalog are you using? It definitely is not a #45 in a Scott catalog. It is a #183. A #45 is a 24 cents Washington.

Now that is a possibility. However, unless I am mistaken, that would be a design number and should have a "A" as in A45. I see that a number of collectors have been using design numbers which is a bit confusing to the those of us who do not, but rather use the Scott number without the "A" or other letter, if that be the case. The problem with using a design number is that there are numerous stamps of the same design that are clearly not the same stamps.

Note: If design number is not the correct term, I would appreciate learning the correct term.

The color is Vermillion. Likely a #178

I Love Stamps says #178 and I said #183, which is my point in the quote above: design and even color in this case are identical but they are not the same stamp. Design numbers are often unhelpful for IDing a stamp.

I've been calling it an illustration number. I notice Scott's does as well (See Understanding the Listings' in the front of each volume.)
