I was looking over some US postage dues and filling some spaces, many more to go. These were already in place when I inherited them about 10 years ago. Looking them up in StampManage 2012 shows a few with different varieties. Info not available when the Harris was printed in 78, I presume. the blank was holding an 1879 scarlet 2 cent. Im pretty sure these are the common issues without the letter designation after the scott#. But I think Im color blind after staring at them for an hour.

I'd say the 5c is red claret.

I agree with Doug, though the color listed in the catalog is Bright Claret.
